There is still no power or water at the cabin, but we stuck with our original schedule and had the family Christmas together on the 23rd. We just did it in Fremont rather than in the land of snow and fallen trees. And we couldn’t have gone to the cabin even if we were prepared to rough it because Hwy 2 is closed between Stevens Pass and Leavenworth, and even if we took the long way to Leavenworth, the alternative route to Chiwawa, the Chumstick highway is also closed.
To ease the suffering, we had a feast!
We started off with candied bacon appetizers with cheese and crackers. Yes, candied bacon! Who could resist caramelized maple syrup bacon with a nut topping. Salt, fat and sweet – all the three major food groups in one!
Then on to the main course of leg of lamb, and chicken and stuffing and all the trimmings. We had enough to feed an army. But in the absence of an army, we won’t have to cook for a week.
Then we retired to the living room, had a few drinks, opened our gifts to each other, and watched the Seahawks kick the 49ers butts.
It was a good start to the Christmas season. I hope we can continue the celebrations later this week up at the CITW.
Merry Christmas to you and all of your family Walter.
