Well, we’re in. A month ago, with the help of a live person on the phone at the Washington Health Benefit Exchange, we finally got registered. A couple of weeks ago, we selected a plan from Premera Blue Cross, and even paid the first month’s premium. We received various confirmations from WHBE, but nothing from Premera, and our first month’s payment had not been charged to our credit card. So today I called Premera, and lo and behold! we’re on their rolls! Our welcome membership package is in the mail, and we’ll soon have our cards to make it all official. Whew!
I haven’t seen any numbers on Washington State enrollment, but I suspect that if my experience is any indication, there will be a lot of people who’ve given up in frustration. It may take some months for everyone in the private marketplace to sort things out, but now that the system seems to working, some of my optimism is returning.
